Part of you

How frail is humanity! How short life is! (Job 14:1; NLT).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

*****************************

My body, mind and heart
Belong to you, Lord –

Though clearly they are fragile,
Mortal, finite.

Yet my soul belongs to you
For evermore, Lord –

For it’s a holy and immortal
Part of you.

Body and soul

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

Lord,
When the fragile bond
Between my body and soul
Is broken,
You and I will be truly one
At last,
United in your love
For evermore.

Christ lives

It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me (Galatians 2:20; NLT).

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

You are the temple of the living God (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

Christ lives
Within my mortal flesh;

Christ lives
Within my damaged mind;

Christ lives
Within my fragile heart;

Christ lives
Within my sacred soul.

Trouble

How frail is humanity! How short life is, how full of trouble! (Job 14:1; NLT).

Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (Romans 8:35 NLT).

Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38; NLT).

Lord,
When trouble strikes,
Does it mean
You no longer love us?

Of course not!

For though we are fragile,
And our lives are full of sorrow,
Nothing can divide us
From your love.

Only human

Only human

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law (Romans 13:8; NIV).

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12; NIV).

The King will reply, ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:40; NIV).

He will reply, ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me’ (Matthew 25:45; NIV).

Father,
We are only human.

We are fragile and vulnerable,
Easily damaged
In body, mind and soul.

     Lord, heal us.

Father,
We are only human.

We damage others, too,
By accident,
By not caring,
And even by design.

     Lord, forgive us.

Father,
We are only human.

Help us to start our lives afresh
By offering love
To everyone we meet,
And serving Christ in them.

     Lord, restore us.

We ask this in His precious name,
Amen.
