Abba, Father

Abba, Father,
I love you;
And, to my amazement,
You love me.

Abba, Father,
I love you;
And, to my delight,
You set me free.

Abba, Father,
I love you;
And, to my relief,
You heal my soul.

Abba, Father,
I love you;
And, to my great joy,
You make me whole.

Because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6; NLT).

He loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

I have paid the price to set you free (Isaiah 44:22; NLT).

He restores my soul (Psalm 23:3; NKJV).

He was beaten so we could be whole (Isaiah 53:5; NLT).

Exile (Isaiah 9:1-7; NRSV).

I spent my early years
In bondage;
My teens and twenties
Trying to escape.

My thirties in the desert
Of depression;
My anxious forties
In a pathless waste.

My fifties brought me
To your promised freedom,
A land where I could start
To change and grow.

My sixties came with sickness,
Loss, restriction,
Yet love and joy at last
Began to flow.

How many years remain?
I cannot guess, Lord.
At present, I have time
And space to pray –

No longer far from you,
Condemned to exile,
I dwell in you, and you in me,
Each day.

We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand (Deuteronomy 6:21; NLT).

He has known your walking through this great wilderness (Deuteronomy 2:7; HNV).

He chose the Promised Land for our inheritance (Psalm 47:4; NLT).

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised (Job 1:21; NIV).

You love him even though you have never seen him […] and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy (1 Peter 1:8; NLT).

All who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

The yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you have broken (Isaiah 9:4; NRSV).

Breast cancer, mastectomy,, prayer, healing, contemplation, oneness, love,

You offer us creation

You offer us creation,
And you offer us your earth;

You offer us your advent,
And you offer us your birth.

You offer us forgiveness,
And you offer us your love;

You offer us your body,
And you offer us your blood.

You offer us salvation,
And eternal life with you —

But we can spurn them all, Lord,
For you offer freedom, too!

The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it (Genesis 2:14; NLT).

The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel [God with us] (Isaiah 7:15; NIV).

I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins (Matthew 9:6; NLT).

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life (John 6:54; NIV).

God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9; NIV).

The Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion (Isaiah 30:18; NLT).

Free will

Don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil (1 Peter 2:16; NLT).

The Lord is our judge (Isaiah 33:22; KJV).

He will judge everyone according to what they have done (Romans 2:6; NLT).

We have free will.

We can indulge
Our selfishness,
And violence
To our hearts’ content –

God will not intervene.

But when we stand before him
After death,
Make no mistake:

We’ll face the consequence
Of every thought,
And word,
And deed
Before our judge.

Women and girls

There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus
(Galatians 3:28; NKJV).

All of you are equal as brothers and sisters (Matthew 23:8; NLT).

I pray for all the women and girls
Throughout the world
Who are condemned
To lives of inferior status,
And opportunity
By men –
For all of us
Are equal in your sight,
Almighty God.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world (John 1:9; NRSV).

You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons (Isaiah 42:7; NLT).

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36; NIV).

Thank you that
Your Son came
To enlighten us –

Setting us free
To think for ourselves,
And make up our own minds;

Releasing us
To discover and explore you
For ourselves;

Encouraging us
To change and grow
Throughout our lives;

And helping each of us
To build o
ur own relationship
With you.

“God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13; NIV).

He has sent me … to proclaim freedom for the captives (Isaiah 61:1; NIV).

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10; NRSV).

The time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God. This is because they have never known the Father or me (John 16:2-3; NLT).

I pray for those who value spoken worship,
And for those who love silence;

For those who prostrate themselves before you,
And for those who simply bow their heads;

For those who say long, formal prayers,
And for those who only whisper, ‘Lord, have mercy’;

For those who want freedom for themselves alone,
And for those who want abundant life for all;

For those who slaughter others in your name,
And for the families and friends of those they kill.

I ask all this through Jesus’ holy name,
