Prayer, solitude, silence, stillness, darkness, contemplation, prayer,

Spend time alone

Spend time alone
To seek God’s holy presence;

Be silent
As you listen for his voice.

With eyes closed
You may see his dazzling glory;

And in stillness
You may join his sacred dance.

Agoraphobia diary: day 3

Hello to all readers. It’s the third day of my agoraphobia challenge, and today has been an easier day, as anticipated. The effort needed to tolerate my anxieties is very tiring, so I knew I needed to be upfront about that, and not to do too much.

Silent awe

The whole earth is full of his glory (Isaiah 6:3; NIV).

There is one Lord […] who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed (John 20:28; NLT).

I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe (Psalm 5:7; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Lord,

When I am deep
In contemplation,

My inner darkness
Opens, to reveal

Your glory, in all things,
Including me.

Then I worship you,
My God,

In silent awe.

Rejoice

The whole earth is full of his glory (Isaiah 6:3; NIV).

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1; NLT).

“You created all things” (Revelation 4:11; NLT).

There is one Lord … who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Lord,
I rejoice that
The glory,
Life,
And energy
In all created things
Has come from you,
Is part of you,
And will return to you
One day.

God’s glory

“God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars” (Job 25:5; NLT).

From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance (Psalm 50:2; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship (Psalm 19:1; NIV).

So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NT).

“For indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:20-21; NKJV).

“Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom” (Matthew 13:43; NLT).

Lord,
You are more glorious
Than the moon.
Your radiance is brighter
Than the stars,
And your light streams
From everything you make –
Including us.

May we, too,
Shine like the sun
In your kingdom today.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Glory

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands (Psalm 19:1; NLT).

Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! (1 Chronicles 16:32; NLT).

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine (Isaiah 9:2; NLT).

The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down (Psalm 146:8; NLT).

Lord,
When I see your glory
Shining out
From everything you make,
My heart bursts
With joy and praise.

Please open the eyes
Of those who walk
In darkness,
So they can see your glory –
And rejoice!

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.
