Mental health

Hello to all readers. Today’s blog takes the form of two short pieces under the same heading, rather than one longer one:

Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

1. The more we hide from others
What we truly think and feel,
The more depressed and anxious
We will be.

2. We build our prison,
Brick, by brick, by brick,
Out of all that we believe
We can’t express.

You hide me

Hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8; NLT).

All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 36:7; NLT).

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4; KJV).

The Lord is full of tenderness (James 5:11; NLT).

The Lord your God will be your everlasting light (Isaiah 60:19; NLT).

You hide me
In your holy shadow, Lord;

You keep me safe
However dark the night.

You hold me
With your deepest tenderness;

And fill me
With your everlasting light.

In darkness

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

Golden splendour comes from the mountain of God. He is clothed in dazzling splendour (Job 37:22; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

Doesn’t your fear of him overwhelm you? (Job 13:11; NLT).

First black,
Then white,
In dazzling, golden light,
I see you, Lord,
Grow ever brighter,

Till I hide,
And wait for you
To pass me by,
In love and awe
With eyes shut tight.

Then, overwhelmed,
I start to write,
As you leave me
In darkness,
Once again.

Hide and seek

“Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and the earth?” says the Lord (Jeremiah 23:24; NLT).

When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you (Jeremiah 29:13; NET).

His mercy is everlasting (Psalm 100:5; NLT).

He loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

I want to hide from you
In shame,
Remembering my sins
Throughout my life.

But instead,
I’m going to seek you out
In faith,
Remembering your mercy
And your love.

Hide and seek

Hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8; NLT).

The Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost (Luke 19:10; NLT).

You and I both belong to God (Job 33:6; NLT).

Save me, for I serve you and trust you (Psalm 86:2; NLT).

Please hide me
In the shadow of your wings,

And seek me out
Each time I go astray;

For I belong to you
Throughout my life,

And I want to serve you
More and more each day.

May I hide

Hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8; NLT).

The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you (Deuteronomy 33:27; NLT).

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you (Isaiah 66:13; NIV).

Before you gave birth to the earth […] you are God (Psalm 90:2; NLT).

May I hide
For a while
In the shadow
Of your wings.

May I rest
For a while
In the shelter
Of your arms.

May I sleep
For a while
In the comfort
Of your womb.
