Oneness

Lord,

We know that after death
All souls are one with you,
And yet we fail to grasp that here, in life,
The same is true.

So how can we hate others, Lord,
Ignore, exploit, condemn,
When they are one with us, and we, like you,
Are one with them?

When we look down on others, Lord,
And try to shut them out,
This proves we do not love ourselves,
Whatever words we spout.

All concepts of me, us and them,
Are ignorant and blind,
For we are one with you, Lord God,
And with all humankind.

Forgive us, Lord; we are ashamed.
Please cleanse us with your blood;
And help us all to follow you,
By offering your love.

You make and care for us

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalm 14:2-3; NIV).

Lord,

You make and care for us
With love,

Yet we ignore and thwart you,
Which is strange –

For we’re on course
To devastate our world,

With greed, pollution, war,
And climate change.

Faithful forever

Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God (Deuteronomy 8:11; NLT).

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1; NIV).

If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is (2 Timothy 2:13; NLT).

Lord,
Thank you
For always being with us –

Even when we ignore you,
Forget you,
Or deny your very existence,

For however unfaithful we are,
You remain faithful
Forever.

Presence

You are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16; NLT).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

God speaks again and again (Job 33:14; NLT).

Come into his presence (1 Chronicles 16:29; NLT).

Lord God,
You live within us all,

But we ignore, forget, or shut you out,
As best we can.

We don’t make space
To look for you in stillness;

We don’t wait silently
To hear your voice;

Nor do we spend time with you
In solitude.

Please help us, Lord,
To seek your holy presence,

Then to listen humbly,
And to learn.

Growth

Growth

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth”
(John 16:13; NRSV).

…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6; NIV).

Father,
You know how often
I misunderstand,
Forget,
And ignore
Your teaching.

Please guide me
Into the truth,
And help me to mature
As a Christian.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
