Patient silence

When you pray, don’t babble on as people of other religions do (Matthew 6:7; NLT).

If only you would listen to his voice today! (Psalm 95:7; NLT).

Wait patiently for the Lord (Psalm 27:14; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

*******************************

Lord,

Forgive us
When we pray

Without listening
For your voice,

And help us
To wait for you

In patient
Silence.

Come to me

Come to me
in contemplation –
Let my light and love
Flow in.

Come to me
In contemplation –
Free from weariness
And sin.

Come to me
In contemplation –
Listen for my voice
Within.

Come to me
In contemplation –
Drop the need to strive
And win.

Lord God, I pray
For all, today,

Who will not listen
For your voice,

Or long for you;
Or make the choice

To seek your Son,
The Holy One,

And follow him,
Our humble King.

Hear what I say

Hear what I say,
And do as I do,

This is what Jesus
Is saying to you.

Follow my lead,
And become more like me –

This is how Jesus
Wants you to be.

Treat all with kindness,
Love them all, too –

So other people
See Jesus in you.
