Let go

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised (Job 1:21; NIV).

Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? (Job 2:10; NIV).

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

Please help me
To let go
Again and again
Of longing
To be different
From how I am.

Sacred flame

Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame (Song of Songs 8:6; NLT).

Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us? (Luke 24:32; NLT).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

The Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like him (2 Corinthians 3:18; NLT).

The sacred flame
Of your love
Burns in our hearts,
As we wait in silence,
Longing to become
Much more like you.

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The Lord your God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NLT).

I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28: NLT).

You are light –
And how we long
To see your brilliance.

You are fire –
And how we long
To feel your warmth.

You are love –
And how we long
To know your blessing.

You are peace –
And how we long
To share your rest.

These wicked people are born sinners; even from birth they have lied and gone their own way (Psalm 58:3; NLT).

“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living” (Luke 15:13; NLT).

So he returned to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him” (Luke 15:20; NLT).

We turn our backs on you
And go our own way,
Wasting our lives
In sin and selfishness.

Yet you wait for us
With arms outstretched,
Ready to forgive,
And longing to welcome us
With a kiss.

Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him (Deuteronomy 30:19-20; NIV).

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out (John 10:3; NIV).

I focus my mind,
My heart
And my soul
On you alone.

Here I am,
Listening in the darkness,
Longing to hear your voice.

Please speak to me –
Show me your will,
And give me the strength
To carry it out.

I ask this in Jesus’ holy name,

Hello everyone. Today’s prayer relates to an issue I’ve just started to notice and think about. I’d be interested to hear how other people handle their intercessions when what they really long for is to move straight into the silence of contemplative prayer…

After praying myself to a standstill
Whilst fighting the longing to fall silent,
I surrender at last.

As I let go of all my words and thoughts
Time slows down,
Then nothing matters
Beyond resting in your love.
