Thank you is so feeble

When you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words
(Matthew 6:7; NKJV).

“Thank you”
Is so feeble, Lord,
But what else
Can I add?

“Sorry”
Is inadequate –
But what else
Can I say?

“Love you”
Is repetitive –
But what else
Can I claim?

“Help me”
Is so childlike, Lord –
But what else
Can I pray?

Father,
May I shed your light
On everyone I know.

Father,
May I sow your peace
Everywhere I go.

May I speak your truth
To everyone I meet.

To everyone I greet.

A holy faith

As you build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting expectantly for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life (Jude 1:20-21; CSB).

We cannot build
A holy faith
By judging those
Who don’t behave like us.

We cannot build
A holy faith
By hating those
Who don’t agree with us.

We cannot build
A holy faith
By killing those
Who don’t share our beliefs.

We only build
A holy faith
By loving all our enemies,
And friends.

We see your Word

We see your Word
Reflected in the chalice,

And taste your Word
Embodied in the bread.

We share your Word
Through mingled wine and water,

And love your Word,
Whose precious blood was shed.
