Neither black nor white

He is not human (numbers 23:19; NLT).

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our own image, to be like us” (Genesis 1:26; NLT).

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

No one has ever seen God (John 1:18; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Lord God,

You’re neither black nor white,
Nor male, nor female,

In fact, you are not human, Lord,
At all;

And though you make us mortals
In your image,

It’s clear that in some ways
We’re not like you.

You don’t belong
To any known religion,

And none of us
Has ever seen your face;

We only know you’re light,
And peace, and fire;

We only know that you are love,
And grace.

Male and female

Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his (Psalm 100:3; NRSV).

God created mankind in his own image, […] male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28; NKJV).

The Lord our God, the Lord is One (Mark 12:29; HCSB).

Almighty God,
You make us all
In your own image,
For you unite
And far transcend
Both male and female
In your glorious Oneness.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28; NKJV).

“…all of you are equal as brothers and sisters” (Matthew 23:8; NLT).

O LORD my God […] You have no equal (Psalm 40:5; NLT).

In our relationships
There can be
No happiness,
Or peace,
Or love,
Without equality –

Except in our relationship
With you.

Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin (Psalm 51:2; NLT).

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

“Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him  (Matthew 9:9; NLT).

Please strip away
My sins,
And weaknesses.

Wash away my guilt,
Restore me to your image,
And help me to follow
Your dear Son.

In his most precious name,

Hello to all readers. This short reflection came to me yesterday morning. Hopefully, it’s easy, even fun to read, but it ends with a serious personal question…

* People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God (Luke 13:29; NIV).

God gives the greatest parties!

Everyone’s invited –
Saints and sinners,
Gay and straight,
Young and old,
Strong and weak,
Rich and poor,
Sick and well,
Men and women,
Girls and boys.

People of every race, tribe, colour and creed
Are welcome to feast in God’s kingdom,
United, at last, in his love –
So are you ready to accept his invitation?

NB: Sorry if anyone receives this post twice, but although it’s gone out on twitter, it has failed to go out as an email, as far as I can tell, so I’m now trying to re-send it.
