Prayer

God’s hand

God’s hand

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand (1 Peter 5:6; NIV).

In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind  (Job 12:10; NIV).

…when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things (Psalm 104:28; NLT).

…when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust (Psalm 104:29; NLT).

For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NLT).

The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD (Job 1:21; NLT).

Lord,
My life
Is in your hand.

When you open it,
I am satisfied
With good things.

When you close it,
I will die
And turn to dust.

Then my spirit
Will return to you,
Who gave it,

And I will praise your name
For evermore –
In paradise.

Questioning

Hello, friends. This prayer came to me yesterday, during my quiet time. It started off with me asking God if he had anticipated how things would turn out when he made us. By the time I had finished writing it, 12 or 13 hours later, I found that my question had been fully answered.

Questioning
* So God created mankind in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NIV).
* I was enraged by their sinful greed (Isaiah 57:17; NIV).
* For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16; NIV).
* …the LORD makes his life an offering for sin (Isaiah 53:10;NIV).

Lord,
When you created us in your own image,
Did you know we would choose
The path of disobedience and sin?

Did you know the powerful would abuse the weak,
And the rich exploit the poor?

Did you know we would exploit,
Pollute and despoil
Your beautiful, pristine world
With our selfishness and greed?

You did –
Yet you went ahead,
And made us.

You went ahead,
And loved us.

You went ahead,
And sent your only Son to die for us,
So that we can be forgiven –
The moment we repent,
And turn to you,
And start to change our lives.
