As darkness falls

As darkness falls,
I come ashore,

And take the path
To heaven’s door.

You run to meet me,
Kiss my face,

And overwhelm me
With your grace.

If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God (Isaiah 50:10; NLT).

There before me was a door standing open in heaven (Revelation 4:1; NIV).

While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him (Luke 15:20; NIV).

Doesn’t your fear of him overwhelm you? (Job 13:11; NLT).

Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most (Hebrews 4:16; NLT).

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me (Psalm 42:7; NIV).

Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deep and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me (Psalm 69:1-2; NLT).

“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” (Matthew 26:38; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! (Isaiah 61:10; NLT).

Just as grief
Overwhelms us
In waves,
So does your love,
In contemplation.

“Here I am” (1 Samuel:3:4; NIV).

“O Lord, please leave me – I’m too much of a sinner to be around you” (Luke 5:8; NLT).

“Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you” (Luke 7:6-7; NLT).

“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9; NIV).

…and after the fire, a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

Here I am, in contemplation,
Overwhelmed by your presence,
And afraid.

Part of me wants to say:
“Lord, leave me! I’m a sinner,
And I don’t deserve to be near you.”

But a braver part of me says:
“Speak, Lord,
For your servant is listening.”

Then I write down
What you teach me,
As best I can.

The hands of God

The hands of God

It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31; NLT).

God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all (1 John 1:5; NLT).

The Lord your God is a devouring fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NLT).

I can never get away from your presence! (Psalm 139:7; NLT).

No wonder I am so terrified in his presence. When I think of it, terror grips me  (John 23:15; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:8; NLT).

Living God,
It is a terrible thing
To fall into your hands.

Your light
Blinds me.

Your fire
Burns me.

Your presence
Fills me with dread.

Your love
Overwhelms me.

Living God,
It is a terrible thing
To fall into your hands.
