Prayer, spiritual development, personal growth, faith, exploration, wholeness,

You make and care for us

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalm 14:2-3; NIV).

You make and care for us
With love,

Yet we ignore and thwart you,
Which is strange –

For we’re on course
To devastate our world,

With greed, pollution, war,
And climate change.

This what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool” (Isaiah 66:1; NLT).

“My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine” (Isaiah 66:2; NLT).

Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need (Psalm 79; 8; NIV).

Come quickly, LORD (Psalm 40:13; NLT).

We’re ruining
Your world –

With our inequality,
And riches;

Our prejudice,
And hatred;

Our wars,
And refugees;

Our pollution,
And our endless exploitation
Of the earth’s finite resources.

Come quickly, Lord, to help us –
Because we’ve shown
That we’re incapable
Of sorting out the mess we’ve made
Without you.

Hello, friends. This prayer came to me yesterday, during my quiet time. It started off with me asking God if he had anticipated how things would turn out when he made us. By the time I had finished writing it, 12 or 13 hours later, I found that my question had been fully answered.

* So God created mankind in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NIV).
* I was enraged by their sinful greed (Isaiah 57:17; NIV).
* For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16; NIV).
* …the LORD makes his life an offering for sin (Isaiah 53:10;NIV).

When you created us in your own image,
Did you know we would choose
The path of disobedience and sin?

Did you know the powerful would abuse the weak,
And the rich exploit the poor?

Did you know we would exploit,
Pollute and despoil
Your beautiful, pristine world
With our selfishness and greed?

You did –
Yet you went ahead,
And made us.

You went ahead,
And loved us.

You went ahead,
And sent your only Son to die for us,
So that we can be forgiven –
The moment we repent,
And turn to you,
And start to change our lives.
