Rain, your tears, Lord

Today is the first day of Lent, so I want to share with you a favourite poem I first posted a long time ago:

Your tears, Lord;
Your light.

Your beauty;
Your night.

Your anger;
Your bed.

Your footpath;
Your bread.

Your life force;
Your flesh.

Your anguish;
Your death.

Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head (Luke 9:58; NLT).

If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread (Matthew 4:3; NLT).

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7; NLT).

He was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood (Luke 22:44; NLT).

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:34; NLT).

Breast cancer, mastectomy,, prayer, healing, contemplation, oneness, love,

How can I thank you?

How can I thank you, Lord my God,
For everything you give?
For every pulse, and every breath,
And every day I live?

How can I thank you, Lord, my God,
For every drop of rain?
For every tree, and every fruit,
And every head of grain?

How can I thank you, Lord, my God,
For every falling leaf?
For every loss, and every death,
And every tide of grief?

How can I thank you, Lord, my God,
For every gift of love?
For every fear, and every wound,
And every drop of blood?

Thank him for all he has done (Philippians 4:6; NLT).

He gives us rain each spring and fall, assuring us of a harvest when the time is right (Jeremiah 5:24; NLT).

Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18; NIV).

Not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it (Matthew 10:29; NLT).

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends (John 15:13; NLT).

This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many (Matthew 26:28; NLT).

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16, NLT).

Prayer, spiritual development, personal growth, faith, exploration, wholeness,

You give everyone your sunlight,
You give everyone your rain;

You give everyone your Son, Lord,
You give everyone your name.

So everyone deserves our kindness,
Everyone deserves our love;

Everyone deserves our help,
So earth becomes like heaven above.

He gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike (Matthew 5:45; NLT).

God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (John 3:16; NIV).

I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name (Ephesians 3:15; NIV).

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them (Romans 12.9; NLT).

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10; NLT).

The Kingdom of God is already among you (Luke 17:21; NLT).

The Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below (Joshua 2:11; NLT).

Personal growth, faith, prayer, contemplation, love, oneness,, Prayer

An ecstasy came upon him (Acts 10:10; DBY).

Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair (Luke 7:38; NLT).

In his shadow have I rapture (Song of Songs 2:3; DBY).

I am in despair (Psalm 69:20; NLT).

Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants (Deuteronomy 32:2; NLT).

Is very close
To tears,

And pleasure
Can be very close
To pain.

So, may we face
Both rapture
And despair,

While your love
Falls on us
Like gentle rain.

God’s presence

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord (Psalm 114:7; NLT).

As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you (2 Samuel 5:24; NIV).

For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea, causing its waves to roar (Isaiah 51:15; NLT).

The heavens proclaim the glory of God (Psalm 19:1; NLT).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Your presence fills the earth –
How great you are!

We hear your footsteps
In restless tree-tops,
And glimpse your splendour
In high mountains.

We sense your power
In roaring waves,
And feel your touch
In gentle rain.

We see your glory
In the heavens,
And breathe your perfume
In wild flowers.

We taste your sweetness
In contemplation,
And experience your love
Within our hearts.

Your presence fills the earth –
How great you are!

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind’ ” (Matthew 22:37; NLT).

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit
(1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

In prayer,
May my mind
Unite with yours,
Like rain
Falling into a stream.

In worship,
May my heart
Unite with yours,
Like a stream
Flowing into a river.

In contemplation,
May my soul
Unite with yours,
Like a river
Pouring into the sea.

Through Jesus’ name,
