Prayer, prayer, healing, contemplation, oneness, love,

Minded to forgive

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities (Psalm 103:8-10; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent (Luke 24:47; NLT).

You’re not thinking
All the time
Of sin,

Of judgment,
And penance,

For you are love,
And minded
To forgive –

When we repent.

Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan river, preaching that people should be baptised to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven (Luke 3:3; NLT).

Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee (Psalm 41:4; KJV).

Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong (Isaiah 55:7; NLT).

What must we do
In order to find healing
For our souls?

The only way
Is to repent,
And turn to you;

To ask forgiveness,
And to change
Our sinful ways.

Abusing others

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light (Isaiah 9:2; NLT).

True circumcision is… a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit (Romans 2:29; NLT).

Repent, and turn away from your sins (Ezekiel 18:30; NLT).

I pray for people who abuse
Those weaker than themselves.

May they see your light,
And have a change of heart.

May they repent,
Making their peace with you
And with their victims –
Never abusing anyone again.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it (John 1:5; NLT).

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and turns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! (Luke 15:7; NLT).

The LORD looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one. Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to the LORD (Psalm 14:2-4; NLT).

The end of the world is coming soon (1 Peter 4:7; NLT).

You are beyond stillness,
And darkness –

Dancing with joy
When we repent
And turn to you;

Weeping over our selfishness,
And violence;

And watching us indulge
Our darkest impulses unchecked,
As we bring our fragile planet
Ever closer to its end.

“I am nothing” (Job 40:4; NLT).

The LORD knows people’s thoughts; he knows they are worthless (Psalm 94:10; NLT).

“Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near” (Matthew 4:17; NLT).

“I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death” (Genesis 27:2; NIV).

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour” (Matthew 25:13; NIV).

We are nothing before you.
You know all about us,
And, in the end,
Will justly punish us
For our judgemental thoughts,
Abusive words,
And unkind deeds.

Please look on us with mercy!
Help us to repent,
Turn from our sins,
Ask your forgiveness,
And change our selfish lives,
Before the day
Of reckoning arrives –

For we do not know
The day, or hour,
Of our death.

And what about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too (Luke 13:4-5; NLT).

Be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18; NLT).

If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit (Proverbs 9:12; NLT).

Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding (Hebrews 6:1; NLT).

Our purpose is to please God, not people (1 Thessalonians 2:4; NLT).

The good things
That come to us in life
Are not rewards;
Nor are the bad things

Stuff happens,
Either randomly,
Or caused by us,
Or other people –
You don’t make things happen,
Either way.

May we thank you
In all circumstances,
Good and bad,
Asking you to help us face
And come to terms
With what life brings.

Then we will grow
In wisdom,
And maturity –
In keeping with your purpose
For our lives.

You, Lord, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you (Psalm 69:5; NIV).

“Therefore I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign LORD. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!” (Ezekiel 18:30; NLT).

Please help us all
To see
Our own wrongdoing,
To understand
The hurt and harm
We cause to others,
To be sorry,
And to change.

We ask this
In the name of your dear Son,
Our Saviour, Jesus Christ,
