Soul

Until last Thursday, I thought that my soul had inevitably been damaged by the experiences I’d had during childhood, and that praying for it to be healed was the only way forward. However, last Thursday, during a therapy session, I saw that my soul is, in fact, completely whole and perfect. It cannot be damaged, spoilt, or destroyed by anything that happens here, during my life. This is a tremendous relief for me. I’ve struggled to express my new understanding in a prayer, but you will be able to decide for yourself how far I’m succeeding at this stage!

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul (Psalm 121:7; KJV).

Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord (Romans 14:8; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

Lord,
I’m so relieved
To understand, at last,
That my soul
Is pure
And whole –
Completely perfect.

No one can damage,
Or destroy it,
No matter what
They do to me,
Because my soul
Is part of you.

It came from you,
Continues to belong to you
During my time on earth,
And when I die
Will reunite with you,
For evermore.

Soul

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1; NLT).

I am the Lord, who made all things (Isaiah 44:24; NLT).

The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away (Job 1:21; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Is anything worth more than your soul? (Matthew 16:26; NLT).

Lord,
Every single thing I have,
Including even my body,

Is made from the materials
You provide,

And will be taken from me
In the end,

Except my soul –
Which will return

To reunite with you,
The One who gave it.

More of God

Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy (Ephesians 4:24; NLT).

Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Dear Lord,
May there be less of me,
With all my faults
And weaknesses,

And more of you within me
Every day,
Until I reunite with you
In death.

Amen.

Unity

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit
(1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Lord,
Help me to be at one
With you each day
Until life’s end,
When I will reunite with you
In paradise for evermore.

Help me to be at one
With those I meet each day
Until life’s end,
When we will reunite with you
In paradise for evermore.

And help us to be at one
Throughout the world each day
Until life’s end,
When we will reunite with you
In paradise for evermore.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.
