You take us in your arms

You take us in your arms each day,
Though we, Lord, cannot see you;

And carry us along the way,
Though we, Lord, disregard you.

You hold our hands when we feel scared,
Though we, Lord, may not know you;

And comfort us when life is hard,
Though we, Lord, soon forget you.

You bear us to our resting place,
Though we, Lord, still deny you –

Until we see you face to face,
Then, we cannot ignore you!

Each day he carries us in his arms (Psalm 68:19; NLT).

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe (John 20:29; NIV).

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1; NIV).

I hold you by your right hand – I, the Lord your God (Isaiah 41:13; NLT).

He comforts us in all our troubles (2 Corinthians 1:4, NLT).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12; NRSV).

The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you (Deuteronomy 33:27; NLT).

Speaking the truth

Today’s blog is a completely unexpected development from yesterday’s…

Speaking the truth

…speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart
(Proverbs 3:3; NLT).

Pray for those who hurt you (Luke 6:28; NLT).

…forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us (Luke 11:4; NLT).

Thank goodness
I’m not a helpless child
Any more!

Thank you for showing me
That I no longer have to feel
Silenced, trapped and scared
When someone starts hectoring me,
Raising their voice,
Trying to impose their opinions on me
And to dominate me.

Thank you for giving me
The words I need to use:

Sorry to interrupt you,
But I’m feeling trapped and scared,
So I’m going to end
This conversation now.

Then I will walk away,
Or put down the phone,
Or end our correspondence.

Lord, please tie these words
Around my neck as a reminder,
And write them deep within my heart.

Help me to speak the truth with love
To those who scare me,
Then to withdraw from them
Without delay.

Please help me to forgive them,
To pray for them,
And to get some healthy boundaries
In place with them!

I ask all this in Jesus’ name,

Being scared

Being scared

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. What can mere mortals do to me?
(Psalm 56:3-4; NIV).

“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more” (Luke 12:5; NIV).

I just found out today
That being scared of someone
Isn’t normal –
I never knew that before!

Why didn’t anyone tell me?

It was certainly normal for me –
At home when I was young,
Then, as I grew up,
With anyone
Who spoke aggressively
To me.

But now, at last, I’m learning,
Slowly and painfully,
To get some boundaries in place
With those who scare me.

Thank you for all your help
During this lifelong healing process.

In Jesus’ holy name,
