Expectations

Help me to give up my expectations
That others, Lord, will give me what I ask.

Then I’ll never suffer disappointment,
But squarely face each trial and each task.

Help me to give up my expectations
That others, Lord, should give me what I seek.

Then I’ll never suffer disillusion,
For all of us are fallible and weak.

Help me to give up my expectations
That others, Lord, must tell me what to do.

Then I’ll never suffer desolation,
But instead I’ll bear my cross, and trust in you.

Life on earth

Lord,

If, one by one,
We give up trying to seek you,

Dropping our attempts
To love and serve

Till there are no believers left
At all,

What will the future hold
For life on earth?

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Worship in the dark

Seek God
In your wilderness;

Bless him
In your fear.

Thank him
In your suffering;

Praise him,
He is near.

Find God
In your desert;

Love him
In your heart.

Serve him
In your ruins;

Worship
In the dark.

There are many ways
To seek, and serve,
The Lord,

But unless they teach:
Love all,
Without exception,

In every thought,
And every word,
And every deed,

We can be sure
That we have chosen
The wrong path –

For love
Is the fulfilment
Of God’s law.
