I am nothing but dust and ashes (Genesis 18:27; NIV).

You […] are complete through your union with Christ (Colossians 2:10; NLT).

Lord God,
Alone, I’m nothing,
And I’m no-one:

Finite, weak
And sinful,
A lost cause.

But with you
I’m complete
And I am perfect:

Boundless, strong
And whole,
For evermore.

My perfect God

Your Father in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48; NLT).

I am a sinner (Luke 18:12; NLT).

God is greater than any human being (Job 33:12; NLT).

My beloved is mine and I am his (Song of Songs 2:16; NIV).

You are my perfect God,
And I am only
A sinful human being –
Yet how we love each other!

I am a sinful man (Isaiah 6:5; NLT).

“Follow me and be my disciple” Jesus said to him (Mark 2:14; NLT).

Doing wrong leads to disgrace (Proverbs 18:3; NLT).

I’m so sorry
That I’m only me –

Endlessly sinful
And weak.

Please forgive
And strengthen me.

Help me to follow your Son
As best I can,

So I won’t let you down,
And be disgraced.

God’s image

So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48; NIV).

The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

You are the God who sees me (Genesis 16:13; NIV).

Heavenly Father,
You made us
In your image,
To be perfect –
Just like you.

Yet with every passing day
We choose to be
More selfish,
And brutish;

More ignorant,
And greedy;

More sinful,
And corrupt.

How must you feel, Lord,
As you watch us
Growing ever less like you?

Too much

Too much

Look now; I myself am he! There is no other god but me! I am the one who kills and gives life; I am the one who wounds and heals; no one can be rescued from my powerful hand! (Deuteronomy 32:39; NLT).

I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant (Genesis 32:10; NLT).

Come near to God and he will come near to you (James 4:8; NIV).

As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by (Exodus 33; 22; NLT).

You’re far too much for me –
Too big,
Too overwhelming,
And too strong!

I’m just a weak
And sinful soul –
I don’t deserve
To have you near.

Please shield me
From your awesome power,
And hide me
Till you have passed by;

For I’m afraid
When you draw close
To listen to my prayers,
And speak to me.

In Jesus’ name,

“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me”
(Matthew 10:38; NIV).

“Whoever serves me must follow me” (John 12:26; NIV).

You know how sinful,
And foolish I am.

Please show me your will,
Equip me to serve you,
And help me to follow your Son
To the very best of my ability.

In his holy name,

Only me

Have you ever knocked on a door, whilst calling out, “It’s only me”? That’s how I feel when I pray, because I know just how sinful and unproductive I am…

Only me

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:8; NIV).

His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!’ (Matthew 25:21; NIV).

I’m so sorry I’m only me,
But I just can’t be anyone else.

Please forgive,
And transform me.

Help me
To serve you.

Then, perhaps,
One day I will hear you say:
“Well done,
My good and faithful servant”.
