Thank you is so feeble

When you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words
(Matthew 6:7; NKJV).

“Thank you”
Is so feeble, Lord,
But what else
Can I add?

“Sorry”
Is inadequate –
But what else
Can I say?

“Love you”
Is repetitive –
But what else
Can I claim?

“Help me”
Is so childlike, Lord –
But what else
Can I pray?

Give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18; RSV).

If you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift (Matthew 5:23-4; RSV).

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind (Luke 10:27; NLT).

Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! (Psalm 38:22; RSV).

Give me a church

Lord,

Give me a church
I can, at last, belong to –

A place where people
Want to grow like you;

Where people love, fall out,
Make up, say sorry;

Where everyone who fails
Can start anew.

None of this ever happened
With my mother –

She never said sorry
For how she treated me.

So, give me a church
Where I can find a home, Lord,

Where all can share your love,
Which sets us free.

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back (Matthew 18:15; NRSV).

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar (Psalm 84:3; NLT).

My task

When you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too (Mark 11:25; NLT).

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us (Luke 11:4; NLT).

Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing (Luke 23:34; NLT).

************************************

Lord,

So often it has crossed my mind
To say:

I’d forgive them like a shot,
If they’d say sorry.

But many people
Never say they’re sorry,

Yet, still, my task
Is always to forgive.

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts”  (Hebrews 4:7; NLT).

Serve the LORD your God (Deuteronomy 13:4; NLT).

Lord,
Thank you
For this new day –

Another chance
To seek you,
Hear your voice,
And practice your presence.

Another chance
To say I’m sorry,
And to try again.

Another chance
To follow your Son,
And serve you
As best I can.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
