Leave sin behind

May I leave sin behind,
And turn again to you;
Then I will face this troubled life,
And see my trials through.

May I leave self behind,
And follow Christ, your Son;
Then I will bear my cross, like him,
And serve till life is done.

May I leave all behind,
And ask your Spirit’s aid;
Then I will live in love for all
I meet, before I fade.

May I leave life behind
Without a backward glance;
Then I will reunite with you,
And join your timeless dance.

Get rid of your sins, and leave all iniquity behind you (Job 11:14; NLT).

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me (Matthew 16:24; NLT).

He will give you another Advocate [Comforter, Encourager, Counsellor], who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth (John 14:16-17; NLT).

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them (Romans 12.9; NLT).

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it (Luke 9:24; NLT).

Anyone who puts a hand to the plough and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God (Luke 9:62; NLT).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours (Psalm 90:4; NLT).

The Son of God

The Son of God came down to earth
In flesh and bones and blood,
And now his Spirit lives in us
To show us all his love.

He struggled to survive this world
Of hunger, thirst, and cold,
And now his Spirit lives in us
To make us strong and bold.

He came to set the world on fire
With faith, and hope, and care,
And now his Spirit lives in us
To comfort, and to share.

He drained the dregs from sorrow’s cup
Of anguish, pain, and tears,
And now his Spirit lives in us
To help us face our fears.

Our Saviour suffered life and death,
Humble, poor, roughshod;
And now his Spirit lives in us
To guide us back to God.

When the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law (Galatians 4:4; NLT).

The Spirit of God lives in you (1 Corinthians 3:16; NLT).

Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head (Luke 9:58; NLT).

He will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit (Ephesians 3:16; NLT).

I have come to set the world on fire (Luke 12:49; NLT).

He will give you another Advocate [Comforter, Encourager, Counsellor], who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth (John 14:16-17; NLT).

Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me? (John 18:11; NLT).

He was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood (Luke 22:44; NLT).

Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9; NLT).

We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” (2 Corinthians 5:20; NLT).

Body, death, heart, mind, Prayer, soul, Spirit

My flesh is dying:
Please make my spirit new.
Then I will constantly rejoice,
Although my days are few.

My mind is dying:
Please make my spirit strong.
Then I will pray unceasingly,
And worship all night long.

My heart is dying:
Please make my spirit clean.
Then I will thank you constantly,
Although you are unseen.

My life is ending:
Please make my spirit whole.
Then I will see your face at last,
As you receive my soul.

Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day (2 Corinthians 4:16; NLT).

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up (Luke 18:1; NLT).

Create in me a clean heart (Psalm 51:10; NLT).

No one has ever seen God (John 1:18; NLT).

Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12; NRSV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me (Psalm 49:15; NLT).

God our Father

God our Father,
Holy One,
You love us all
And sent your Son.

Mary, Mother,
Holy Maid,
You heard God’s message
And obeyed.

Jesus, Saviour,
Holy Child,
Through you all things
Are reconciled.

Spirit, Helper,
Holy Dove,
You unify us
In God’s love.

This is real love – not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins (1 John 4:40; NLT).

Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word (Luke 1:38; RSV).

God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself (Colossians 1:19-20; NLT).

We have all been baptised into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13; NLT).

oneness, unity

Here I am,
Co-equal God,
The first of Three.

Here I am,
The Son of God,
In Trinity.

Here I am,
One with our God,
And One with me.

Father, Son,
And Spirit,
Threefold God,
In Unity.

There is only one God (1 Corinthians 8:6; NLT).

The baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

There is one Lord […] who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one – as you are in me, Father, and I am in you (John 17:21; NLT).

Faith, hope, love, God, oneness, Prayer

Pray for us

Most glorious Father,
Our consuming fire.

How we adore you, Christ,
Our purifier.

Pray for us, Holy Ghost,
Our souls inspire.

O glorious Three in One –
Our hearts’ desire.

God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

The blood of Jesus […] purifies us from all sin (1 John 1:7; NIV).

The Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words (Romans 8:26; NLT).

There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding (Job 32:8; KJV).

Our hearts’ desire is to glorify your name (Isaiah 26:8; NLT).

Prayer, spiritual development, personal growth, faith, exploration, wholeness,

Always with me

Always with me –
You’re the light
That guides my feet.

Always with me –
You’re in everyone
I meet

Always with me –
You’re the guardian
Of my soul.

Always with me –
You’re the love
That makes me whole.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105; NLT).

Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me (Matthew 25:40; NIV).

He took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed (Luke 1:48; NLT).

We know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love (Romans 5:5; NLT).
