Still and small

After the earthquake there was a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Lord God,

Your voice within
Is still and small,

So we need silent prayer
In which to hear you.

Too tired

I am weary and worn out, O God (Proverb 30:1; NLT).

Be still, and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:10; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

I’m too tired

For speech
Or thought,

For praise
Or worship,

Or supplication.

So I can only
Rest before you, Lord,

In stillness,
And in silent contemplation.

Silent prayer

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door, and pray to your Father in private (Matthew 6:6; NLT).

…I have calmed and quieted myself (Psalm 131:2; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

If only you would listen to his voice today! (Psalm 95:7; NLT).

…the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; KJV).

I’m alone, at last.

I have closed my door,
Then calmed and quieted myself
Before you.

Silent and still,
I wait patiently,
Listening for your voice
Within my soul.

You never leave me

…God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5; NIV).

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me (Psalm 23:4; NLT).

Every day,
I try to draw near you,
Waiting for you in stillness
And in silence.

Sometimes I find you quickly,
Sometimes slowly,
Sometimes not at all.

But in truth,
You never leave me.

Whether I experience your presence
Or not,
I know you are always
Close beside me,
My Lord, and my God.

Be still in the presence of the LORD (Psalm 37:7; NLT).

Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign LORD (Zephaniah 1:7; NLT).

“How can someone like me, your servant, talk to you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe” (Daniel 10:17; NLT).

You are here.

I’m still,
I’m silent,
And I hardly dare to breathe –
In case I spoil the moment.

Thank you for your presence,
And your love.
