What were the joys of your body?

Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily bedside the well about noontime (John 4:6; NLT).

Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew human nature (John 2:24; NLT).

He was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood (Luke 22:44; NLT).

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:34; NLT).

What were the joys
Of your body?

What were the thoughts
In your mind?

What was the fear
In your heart, Lord?

What was the grief
In your soul?

May I rejoice in you

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Serve the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2; CSB).

Lord,
May I rejoice in you
With every breath,

Pray to you
With every thought,

And serve you
In everything I do.

My dull mind

The Lord […] reveals his thoughts to mankind (Amos 4:13; NLT).

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son (John 3:16; NLT).

I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one (John 17:22; NIV).

************************************************

Lord,

May my dull mind
Be one with yours,
So I can share your thoughts
In contemplation.

May my cold heart
Be one with yours,
So I can share your love
For every person.

May my small soul,
Be one with yours,
So I can share
Your unity with all.

Beyond

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

He hears my voice (Psalm 55:17; NIV).

***********************************************

Lord God,
You are beyond
Our understanding;

Far beyond
Our thoughts,
And all our ways;

Far beyond
Our weak
Imagination –

Yet not beyond
Our love, and prayers,
And praise.

One breath at a time

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind (Luke 10:27; NLT).

Let all that I am praise the Lord (Psalm 103:1; NLT).

You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him (Luke 4:8; NLT).

Lord,

May I seek you
One breath at a time;

Love you
One thought at a time;

Praise you
One word at a time;

And serve you
One step at a time –

Right now!

The truth

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free
(John 8:32; NLT).

Meditation doesn’t mean
Observing our thoughts dispassionately,
Then simply letting them go.

Instead, it’s an opportunity
To grasp our secret thoughts
So we can hear them –

For then
We will learn the truth
About ourselves.

Still, small voice

After the earthquake there was a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

****************************

Lord, thank you
For your still, small voice
In silent prayer –

For how else could I hear
The thoughts
I constantly suppress?
