Forgive, blame, anger, turn cheek, hurt, prayer,

No hate remains

Lord,

I have forgiven
Those who’ve hurt me.

I forgive them now,
And will forgive again.

I pray for them each day,
And try to love them.

May this continue,
Till no hate remains.

Life on earth

Lord,

If, one by one,
We give up trying to seek you,

Dropping our attempts
To love and serve

Till there are no believers left
At all,

What will the future hold
For life on earth?

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me (Jeremiah 29:13; NLT).

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the Lord (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

Whenever we try
To make someone change

We are already doomed, Lord,
To failure;

For we are the ones
Who are needing to change,

No point

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ (Ephesians 5:2; NLT).

We can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus (1 John 4:17; NLT).

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Lord,

There’s no point
In our asking
Your forgiveness,

Unless we try to grow
More like your Son.

Painful honesty

If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone (Matthew 18:15; NRSV).

So then, putting away all falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbours, for we are members of one another. Be angry but do not sin (Ephesians 4:25-6; NRSV).

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged (Matthew 7:1; NLT).

Lord,

When I have to speak
With painful honesty,

Trying to do the best I can,
In love,

How folk respond
Is wholly up to them –

I can’t control
Their judgement or rejection.

Struggle to forgive

“Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!” (Matthew 18:22; NLT).

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us (Luke11:4; NLT).

Pray for those who hurt you (Luke 6:28; NLT).

Lord God,
Please help me
Time and time again,
As I struggle to forgive
All those who hurt me.

Lord God,
Please help me
Time and time again,
As I do my best to love
All those who hurt me.

Lord God,
Please help me
Time and time again,
As I try hard to pray
For those who hurt me.
