How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

He hears my voice (Psalm 55:17; NIV).

Lord God,
You are beyond
Our understanding;

Far beyond
Our thoughts,
And all our ways;

Far beyond
Our weak
Imagination –

Yet not beyond
Our love, and prayers,
And praise.

Beyond this world

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts”, says the Lord, “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God (Psalm 90:2; NLT).

I AM WHO I AM (Exodus 3:14; NLT).

Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord (Romans 14:8; NLT).

Beyond this world
And all its fleeting people;

Beyond all life,
And far beyond all death;

Beyond the infinity of time
And boundless space;

Beyond our vision
And our feeble understanding –

You are who you are, Almighty  God,
And we belong to you.

Transcendence and immanence

“Do you people think that I am some local deity and not the transcendent God?” the Lord asks (Jeremiah 23:23; NET).

We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power (Job 37:5; NLT).

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Lord,
You are transcendent –

Beyond description,
Beyond our many names for you,
Beyond imagination,
And beyond our understanding.

Yet you are also immanent –

Over all,
Within all,
Pervading all,
And living through all.

Hidden

He is clothed in dazzling splendour (Job 37:22; NLT).

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

He will be called: Wonderful Counsellor (Isaiah 9:6; NLT).

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

Whether hidden
From our eyes
By dazzling light,

Or concealed from us
By clouds
And deepest darkness,

Lord,
You are wonderful
Indeed –

Beyond all words,
Beyond our
Understanding.

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14; NLT).

“I am the Lord, and I do not change” (Malachi 3:6; NLT).

The world and all its people belong to him (Psalm 24:1; NLT).

Beyond our words
And thoughts,

Beyond imagination,
And beyond our understanding,

You are who you are,
Unchanging God,

And we all
Belong to you.
