Heart of hearts

Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us (Genesis 1:26; NLT).

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the Lord (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

The Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart (Genesis 6:6; NLT).

Lord,
In your deepest heart of hearts,
Do you regret creating us, your people,
Because of our corruption
And our selfishness?

Lord,
In your deepest heart of hearts,
Do you regret creating us, your people,
Because of our destructiveness
And ignorance?

Lord,
In your deepest heart of hearts,
Do you regret creating us, your people,
Because of our violence
And our inhumanity?

Dear friends

Dear friends, in the light of recent terrible events in our world, I’m posting an extra blog today.  Please read, and pass on, if you wish.

With love from Ruth XXXX

Don’t sin by letting anger control you (Psalm 4:4; NLT).

People with understanding control their anger (Proverbs 14:29; NLT).

Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back (Proverbs 29:11; NLT).

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God (Romans 12:19; NLT).

Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires (James 1:20; NLT).

Dear friends,

Unless we acknowledge
And control

The stored-up anger
Hidden in our shadow self,

We unconsciously project it
On to others,

Making them the cause
Of all the fury and frustration

We can’t face
In ourselves.

Then, it’s just a short
But fatal step

To take revenge
On those we now see as our ‘enemies’ –

With hatred,
And with violence,

And with death.

Please heal us

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases (Psalm 103:3; NLT).

They shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more (Isaiah 2:4; KJV).

…………………………………………………………………………

Lord God,

Please heal our suffering,
Our sickness,
And our wounds.

Please heal our ignorance,
Our weakness,
And our faults.

Please heal our selfishness,
Our violence,
And our wars.

In every heart

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it (John 1:5; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The Spirit is truth (1 John 5:6; NKJV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NIV).

Lord,
May your light
Prevail over darkness,
Your truth
Over lies,
Your peace
Over violence,
And your love
Over hate –
In every heart.

God’s way

Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy (Psalm 123:3; NLT).

Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! (Psalm 86:11; NLT).

Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11; NLT).

When we are judgemental
And unkind –
Lord, have mercy on us;

Teach us your perfect way –
The way of love.

When we are angry
And abusive –
Christ, have mercy on us;

Teach us your perfect way –
The way of peace.

When we are full of hate
And violence –
Lord, have mercy on us;

Teach us your perfect way –
The way of love.

Equality

There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus
(Galatians 3:28; NKJV).

“All of you are equal as brothers and sisters” (Matthew 23:8; NLT).

“I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18; NLT).

‘In the last days’, God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy’ (Acts 2:17; NLT).

Lord,
I pray for everyone
Throughout the world
Who cannot cope
With the inherent freedom,
Independence,
Power,
Value,
Intelligence,
And equality
Of women.

Please help us to end
All the oppression,
Discrimination,
Abuse,
Hatred,
And violence
Heaped upon your daughters.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

ONE GOD

One God

There is only one God (Romans 3:30; NLT).

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror (1 Corinthians 13:12; NLT).

But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! (Psalm 82:5; NLT).

The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

For the leaders of my people – the LORD’S watchmen, his shepherds, – are blind and ignorant (Isaiah 56:10; NLT).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 19:18; NLT).

But anyone who does not love does not know God – for God is love. (1 John 4:8; NLT).

Father,
You are the only God,
But, making you in our own image,
We misconstrue you
In our many different ways.

Then, being ignorant and foolish,
We argue over who is right,
Determined to impose our views
On those we think are wrong –
Even if that means using force.

Meanwhile, you look on,
Grieved beyond measure
By our wilful blindness,
Cruelty, and violence;

For when we fail to love
Others as ourselves,
We show them that
We don’t know you at all
As you are Love.
