May I live in your presence

May I live in your presence, Lord,
By praying night and day;
Then I will trust in God, like you,
Rejoicing in his way.

May I live in your presence, Lord,
By walking at your side;
Then I will speak the truth, like you,
And constantly confide.

May I live in your presence, Lord,
By sitting at your feet;
Then I’ll increase in wisdom, Lord,
For all your words are sweet.

May I live in your presence, Lord,
By kneeling at your cross;
Then I will grow in love, like you,
For all else, Lord, is dross.

Truly free

I thought some of you might be interested to see how a prayer can continue to grow, even after I think it’s finished. So here, as a bonus, is yesterday’s blog, with a brand-new, unexpected second half, written this morning:

Come, sit with me
And seek my voice;
Then you will know me,
And rejoice.

Come, rest with me
And seek my face;
Then you will share
My peace and grace.

Come, walk with me
And take my hand;
Then you will join
My pilgrim band.

Come, take your cross
And follow me;
Then you will find
You’re truly free.

Complete honesty

What joy for those […] whose lives are lived in complete honesty! (Psalm 32:2; NLT).

Almighty God,
You want us to be honest –

You desired our frankness
Before birth.

Help us speak the truth in love
To others,

So we may share the joy of Christ
On earth.

Almighty God,
You want us to be honest –

To speak the truth to you
Both day and night.

Help us to be frank with you,
As Christ was,

So we may walk with you, Lord,
In your light.

Listen to me, my child,
When I march in the tops
Of the trees.

Listen to me, my child,
When I walk in the cool
Of the breeze.

Listen to me, my child,
When I call your name
In the dark.

Listen to me, my child,
When you hear my voice
In your heart.
