Less of me

Lord God,
May there be less of me,

With all my sins
And weaknesses,

And more of you
Within me every day,

Until we live as one
In our shared love.

Then death will hold
No fears for me —

I’ll leave my body
Far behind,

And fully reunite
With you,

In heart, and soul,
And mind.

Like Christ

Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father (John 14:9; NLT).

The Spirit helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26; NRSV).

The Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18; NLT).

Lord God,

You sent your glorious Son
To show us
What you’re like.

Despite our weakness,
May your Spirit help us
To grow more and more like him.

Our narrow way

God, our Father,
Help us when we suffer.
Help us to accept
Our narrow way.

Help us still to serve
As we are able,
And always, Lord, to thank you,
And to pray.

Christ, our Saviour,
Help us face our hardships.
Help us to accept
Our weary way.

Help us still to serve
As we are able,
And always, Lord, to worship you,
And pray.

Mother Mary,
Help us through our sorrows.
Help us to accept
Our stony way.

Help us still to serve
As we are able,
And always to rejoice in you,
And pray.

Holy Spirit,
Help us in our weakness.
Help us to accept
Our lonely way.

Help us still to serve
As we are able,
And always, Lord, to cling to you,
And pray.

The first stone

How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye (Luke 6 42; NLT).

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned (Luke 6:37; NIV).

Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone! (John 8:7; NLT).

Lord,
I’m very ignorant –
So I’m not fit
To judge the ignorance
Of others.

Plus,
I’ve got a lot of weaknesses –
So I’m not fit
To mock the weaknesses
Of others.

What’s more,
I’ve got a multitude of faults –
So I’m not fit
To scorn the faults
Of others.

And lastly,
I commit unceasing sins –
So I’m not fit
To throw the first
Self-righteous stone.

Transformation

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (Romans 12:2. NLT).

He will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit (Ephesians 3:16; NLT).

When I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:10; NLT).

Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest (Psalm 126:5; NLT).

Lord,
By the mysterious action
Of your love,
You slowly help us
To transform our suffering
And weakness
Into patient inner strength,
And even joy!

Wholly yours

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his (Psalm 100:3; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

God will redeem me from the world of the dead; he will surely take me to himself (Psalm 49:15; NIV).

Lord,
I want to be wholly yours
But so much holds me back –

My ignorance and weakness,
Flaws, forgetfulness,
And sinful nature.

I do my best each day,
Yet always fail.

But at death
I’ll be absorbed
Into your Being,

And then I will be wholly yours,
At last.
