Come to me

Come to me
in contemplation –
Let my light and love
Flow in.

Come to me
In contemplation –
Free from weariness
And sin.

Come to me
In contemplation –
Listen for my voice

Come to me
In contemplation –
Drop the need to strive
And win.

Jesus said, “Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “ I am the light of the world” (John 9:5; NLT).

This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him (Mark 9:7; NLT).

Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35; NIV).

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things (1 Corinthians 13:11; NLT).

What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 56:4; NLT).

My mind sees what it used to see,
In childhood.

My heart fears what it used to fear,
Back then.

But that was many years ago;
Now, I’m full-grown.

I can speak out, apologise,

Please help my weary mind to grasp
That life has changed,

So I no longer need to dread
What others say.

Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28-30; NLT).

You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate (Matthew 7:13; NLT).

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink (John 6:55; NIV).

He restores my soul (Psalm 23:3; NKJV).

Remain in me, and I will remain in you (John 15:4; NLT).

Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed (Deuteronomy 28:6; NLT).

Here’s a place
To break our weary journey –

Let’s leave our burdens at the gate,
So we can rest.

This narrow path
Will take us to the garden,

Where food and drink
Is brought to every guest.

When our souls have been restored,
And we are are ready,

We’ll continue on our way,
Just as before,

But no matter where we go,
Or what we’re doing,

We will remain in God –
For evermore.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (1 Peter 5:7; NLT).

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28; NLT).

When I’m anxious, Lord,
Please help me
To share my anxiety
With you.

When I’m angry, Lord,
Please help me
To share my anger
With you.

And when I’m sad, Lord,
Please help me
To share my sorrow
With you.

Empty and full

Empty and full

Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence!
(Psalm 89:47; NLT).

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint
(Isaiah 40:31; NLT).

Until a few weeks ago,
I used to call
The way I feel
When I’m tired and drained

Then, as time passed,
Seemed more accurate.

Next, I recognised that
Was even better.

But now I know that
Is the perfect word.

When I’m empty,
Help me to be patient –
Trusting in you,
And resting quietly,
While you fill me with new strength.

Then I will soar like an eagle again,
Run without weariness,
Walk, and not faint.

In Jesus’ name,

Prayer for the day

Today’s prayer is based on two of my favourite Biblical verses:

Prayer for the day

With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall (2 Samuel 22:30; NIV).

…those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31; NIV).

I am less than nothing
Without you.

But with your help
I can advance against a troop,
Or scale a wall.

I can walk
And run –
Even soar like an eagle.

Lord, all my hope is in you.
Please help me to serve you today
With renewed strength.

I ask this in Jesus’ holy name,

Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward (Job 5:7; KJV).

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest
(Matthew 11:28; NIV).

There is so much suffering
In the world.

We pray for those
Who are weary and burdened,
Including ourselves.

Please forgive,
And bless us all.

Help us to find rest
Along the way
By following your Son;

And bring us home
To everlasting life
With you.

In Jesus’ blessed name,
