Halfway

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him (Luke 15:20; NIV).

O my God, I am utterly ashamed (Ezra 9:6; NLT).

With you there is forgiveness (Psalm 130:4; NIV).

The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you (Deuteronomy 33:27; NLT).

You don’t meet us halfway, Lord,
Almighty though you are –

Instead, you run to greet us
Exactly where we are.

And then you hug and kiss us,
Though we shrink away in shame,

But you are all forgiveness,
And we’re welcomed home again.

There’s no such thing

There is a spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them (Job 32:8; NLT).

I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me! (Matthew 25:40; NLT).

The Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion (Isaiah 30:18; NLT).

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends (Revelation 3:20; NLT).

Lord God,
There’s no such thing
As an outsider –

A stranger,
Or a foreigner,
Or foe –

There’s only you,
Within us all,
Without exception,

Waiting
To be welcomed
In our hearts.

May we welcome all

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; KJV).

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms (Deuteronomy 33:27; NIV).

Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your temple (Psalm 5:7; NLT).

The grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people (Titus 2:11; NLT).

Lord,

May we welcome all
Into your kingdom,

May we offer all
Your warm embrace;

May we usher all
Into your temple,

And may we share with all
Your perfect grace.

Faith

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1; NLT).

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

We are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16; NLT).

……………………………………………

Lord,

Faith does not mean
Following lots of rules –

It means seeing you
In your created world,

Loving you
In everyone we meet,

And discovering you
Deep within ourselves.

When I come back

“My wayward children,” says the Lord, “come back to me, and I will heal your wayward hearts” (Jeremiah 3:22; NLT).

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him (Luke 15:20; NLT).

Lord,
You always
Welcome me,
When I come back
To you –

Whether my mind
Has been wandering
For ten seconds
During meditation;
Or for ten years,
In the wilderness
Of lost faith –

You always
Welcome me,
When I come back
To you.

When I wake up

When I wake up, you are still with me! (Psalm 139:18; NLT).

You are the temple of the living God (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Lord,
When I wake up each morning,
I welcome you afresh
Into my mind,
My heart,
My soul,
My day,
And my life.
