Prayer

May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace (2 Timothy 1:2; NLT).

Lord,
I pray for grace,
Mercy,
And peace,
In every
Mind,
Heart,
And soul
Throughout the world –
Including my own.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Dread

Be silent before the LORD, all humanity (Zechariah 2:13; NLT).

You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day (Deuteronomy 28:66; NIV).

The churning inside me never stops; days of suffering confront me (Job 30:27; NIV).

Lord,
Today,
In the silence,
There is nothing
But you,
Me,
And my constant sense
Of dread.

Unity

God is light (1 John 1:5; NLT).

The God of peace be with you all (Romans 15:33; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy (Ephesians 4:24; NLT).

For the LORD is your life (Deuteronomy 30:20; NIV).

As we seek unity
With God,
He draws us
Into his light,
His stillness
And silence,
His peace,
Love,
And life.

Rest

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1; NLT).

Father,
I rest in you.

Despite the problems
That surround me,

And the bad things
That happen here on earth –

I rest in you.

Far away

Why are you so far away when I groan for help? (Psalm 22:1; NLT).

“…he is not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:27; NLT).

For what great nation has a god as near to them as the LORD our God is near to us whenever we call on him? (Deuteronomy 4:7; NLT).

For in him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28, NIV).

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

Father,
Today you seem
So far away.

Yet I know
You are near,
For in you I live
And move,
And have my being.

Please help me
To keep on seeking you,
With all my heart.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Futile

Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence! (Psalm 89:47; NLT).

Darkness is my closest friend (Psalm 88:18; NLT). God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only’ ”  (Luke 4:8; NIV).

Lord,
When my life
Seems futile,
And my soul
Is in darkness,

Please flood me
With your light,
Love,
And fire,

So I can serve
And worship you,
With all my heart.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

God

Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy (Ephesians 4:24; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

But the Holy Sprit produces this kind of fruit on our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-3; NLT).

For the LORD is your life (Deuteronomy 30:20; NIV).

Lord,
You are truly righteous
And holy.

You are love,
Joy,
And peace;

Patience,
Kindness,
And goodness;

Faithfulness,
Gentleness,
And self-control.

Please help me
To become like you –
For you are my life.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

United

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

Let me be united with all who fear you, with those who know your laws (Psalm 119:79; NLT

All the believers were united in heart and mind (Acts 4:32; NLT).

Lord,
During contemplation,
May I be united
In mind,
Heart,
And spirit
With you,
And with like-minded souls
Throughout the world.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Stay alert!

Stay alert! (Mark 13:33; NLT).

Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him (Deuteronomy 14:4; NLT).

The King will reply, ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:40; NIV).

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NLT).

I will praise the LORD at all times (Psalm 34:1; NLT).

And pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion (Ephesians 6:18; NLT).

Lord,
Help me to stay alert –

Always aware of your presence,
And listening for your voice.

Always following your Son,
And seeing him in everyone I meet.

Always speaking the truth with love,
And thanking you in all circumstances.

Always being joyful,
And praising you.

Always praying in the Spirit,
And clinging to you.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Self-pity

God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4; NLT).

Self-pity is so toxic –
To ourselves,
And others.

It deters us
From taking responsibility
For our situation.

It makes us bitter,
Driving away
Those who try to help.

And it makes us selfish,
So we forget that others suffer too,
Throughout the world.

Lord,
Please help us to resist
And overcome self-pity,
So we can make the most
Of what we have,
Whilst offering comfort
And support
To those who suffer
Alongside us.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
