Golden angels

Many years ago, at Christmas Midnight Mass, I was in a large church, singing in the choir.

As we stood together in the high organ loft, looking out across the church, I suddenly saw that the whole space in front of me was crowded with golden angels.

There were so many that the air was completely filled by their beating wings.

I watched this astonishing sight for a few timeless, unforgettable moments, until it faded away.

Now, I believe that these angels are present, always and everywhere, even though we can’t usually see them.
