Another chance

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts”  (Hebrews 4:7; NLT).

And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him (Hebrews 10:21-22; NLT).

“Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him (Matthew 9:9; NLT).

Serve the LORD your God (Deuteronomy 13:4; NLT).

Lord,
Thank you
For this new day –

Another chance
To seek you,
Hear your voice,
And practice your presence.

Another chance
To say I’m sorry,
And to try again.

Another chance
To follow your Son,
And serve you
As best I can.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

You know

For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust (Psalm 103:14; NLT).

O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you (Psalm 69:5; NLT).

You know of my shame, scorn and disgrace (Psalm 69:19; NLT).

Lord,
You know what I’m like –
Please help me.

You know what I’m like –
Please heal me.

You know what I’m like –
Please strengthen me.

You know what I’m like –
Please forgive me.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Belonging

He made us, and we are his (Psalm 100:3; NLT).

I love the LORD because he hears my voice (Psalm 116:1; NLT).

He guides me along right paths (Psalm 23:3; NLT).

He loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

He comforts us in all our troubles (2 Corinthians 1:4; NLT).

So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord (Romans 14:8; NLT).

Father,
You made me,
And I am yours.

You see and hear me,
Know and teach me,
Guide and protect me,
Heal and help me,
Love and forgive me,
Comfort and save me.

Thank you for making me, Lord,
For whether I live or die,
I always belong to you.

In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen.

With all my sins

“Here I am” (1 Samuel 3:5; NLT).

O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you (Psalm 69:5; NLT).

Yahweh,

Here I am –
With all my sins and weaknesses,
My ill-health, and anxieties;

Low self-esteem, depression,
And my awkwardness
In every situation.

Forgive me, please,
And heal me through and through.
Help me with all I need to say, and do.

Thank you for loving me –
Living in my heart,
Despite all that I am, and all I’m not.

But maybe that is why you love me, Lord –
For only you know fully
Why I need your help so much.

He knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust (Psalm 103:14; NLT).

The long way round

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

“He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deuteronomy 31:8; NLT).

“For indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

Lord,
I’m coming to you
The long way round –

Blundering blindly,
Wandering aimlessly,

Lost in deserts,
Following dead ends,

Trying to find you,
Getting things wrong,

Making mistakes,
And messing up relationships…

But although I’m coming to you
The long way round,

You’re with me all the time –
Here, deep in my heart.

Burdens

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7).

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28; NLT).

Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you (Psalm 55:22; NLT).

Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34; NLT).

Lord,
Here I am,
On my journey
Through life.

Please help me
To rest a while
In silence,
Putting down my burdens,
And sharing them with you.

Then, help me
To take up my cross again,
And follow your Son
As best I can,
Through life.

In his dear name,
Amen.

Mistakes

Indeed, we all make many mistakes (James 3:2; NLT).

Lead me in the right path, O LORD (Psalm 5:8; NLT).

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27; NLT).

Lord,
When I forget
What I think I’ve learned,
And make mistakes,
And get things wrong,
Please help, heal, lead
And strengthen me,
So I can keep on
Following your path,
And seeking your peace
Of mind and heart.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Contemplation

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

Be silent before the LORD, all humanity (Zechariah 2:13; NLT).

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

…I will live in the house of the LORD forever (Psalm 23:6; NLT).

Lord,
I wait upon you patiently,
In stillness
And in silence,
Asking only
To be united in spirit with you,
Forever.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Father and Mother

And you saw how the LORD your God cared for you all along the way as you travelled through the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child (Deuteronomy 1:31; NLT).

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him (Psalm 103:13; NLT).

“I will comfort you there in Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child” (Isaiah 66:13; NLT).

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me” (Luke 13:34; NLT).

Almighty and everlasting God,
Thank you for being
Our Father and our Mother –
Tender,
Compassionate,
Caring,
Protective,
And comforting.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Contemplation

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

His name is the LORD – rejoice in his presence! (Psalm 68:4; NLT).

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek (Psalm 27:8; NIV).

If only you would listen to his voice today! (Psalm 95:7; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

“For indeed, the Kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

Lord,
In contemplation,
I set every thought aside
To seek your presence –
Your face,
Your voice,
Your light,
Your love,
Your fire,
And your Kingdom,
Deep within my soul.

Though Jesus’ name,
Amen.
