Far, near, and everywhere

“Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the LORD. “No, I am far away at the same time. […]  Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” (Jeremiah 23:23-4; NLT).

On the days
When you seem far away
I reach out to you
Across a vast and empty space
As best I can;

And on the days
When you seem near,
I reach in to you,
Deep within my heart and soul
As best I can;

For you are far away,
And near,
Within, without –
And everywhere.

“Here I am” (1 Samuel 3:4; NIV).

I love you, Lord (Psalm 18:1; NLT).

For he loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

O LORD my God, how great you are (Psalm 104:1; NLT).

In the end,
A lot of spoken prayer
Boils down
To this:

Here I am.
I love you, Lord,
And I belong to you.

Thank you for loving me
Despite my sins.
Please help us all.
How great you are!

Through Jesus’ name,

Help us!

The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” (Matthew 8:25; NLT).

Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last (Luke 23:46; NLT).

Please help us, Lord,
And save us,
Or else
We will b
e swamped
By all the storms
Of life,
And death.

I lack nothing

“And be sure of this: I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20; NLT).

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign LORD (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1; NIV).

You are with me
In darkness,
And silence,
So I lack nothing.

Unchanging God

Why are you so far away when I groan for help? (Psalm 22:1; NLT).

He is close to those who trust in him (Nahum 1:7; NLT).

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18; NIV).

“I am the Lord, and I do not change” (Malachi 3:6; NLT).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

“The whole earth is filled with his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3; NLT).

In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind  (Job 12:10; NIV).

There are days
When you seem
Very far away;

And days when you’re as close
As breathing,
Closer than my heartbeat.

In fact,
You never change at all:

You are within me,
And around me,
All the time,

Filling the world,
And holding my life
In your hands.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14; NLT).

“I am the Lord, and I do not change” (Malachi 3:6; NLT).

The world and all its people belong to him (Psalm 24:1; NLT).

Beyond our words
And thoughts,

Beyond imagination,
And beyond our understanding,

You are who you are,
Unchanging God,

And we all
Belong to you.

I am exhausted and completely crushed (Psalm 38:8; NLT).

The LORD gives his people strength (Psalm 28:8; NLT).

“ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind’ ” (Luke 10:27; NLT).

“You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him” (Matthew 4:10; NLT).

I’m exhausted,
And completely crushed.

Please restore
My strength,

So I can seek you
With all my mind,

Love you
With all my heart,

And serve you
With all my soul.

Through Jesus’ name,
