You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food (Hebrews 5:12; NLT).

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity (Hebrews 6:1; NIV).

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding (Hebrews 6:1; NLT).

Let us press on to know the LORD (Hosea 6:3; ESV).

When we cling to
Our elementary teachings
And beliefs,

Keeping them unquestioned
And unchallenged
For too long,

We arrest our spiritual development,
Preventing ourselves
From pressing on

To develop
A more mature relationship
With you.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message (Acts 10:44; NLT).

Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them (Acts 2:3; NLT).

God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5; NIV).

He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Luke 3:16; NLT).

May your Holy Spirit
Fall upon us,

Flooding our minds
With light,

Filling our hearts
With love,

And setting our souls
On fire.

Teach us to realise the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom (Psalm 90:12; NLT).

“I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” (Matthew 25:40; NLT).

Grow to maturity (2 Corinthians 13:11; NLT).

You are so very good
To me:

You give me life,
A precious, short-term gift,

So I can learn
From all its challenges.

Help me to use my time
Both well and wisely,

By seeing you
In everyone I meet,

And growing in maturity
Each year.

“God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13; NIV).

He has sent me … to proclaim freedom for the captives (Isaiah 61:1; NIV).

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10; NRSV).

The time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God. This is because they have never known the Father or me (John 16:2-3; NLT).

I pray for those who value spoken worship,
And for those who love silence;

For those who prostrate themselves before you,
And for those who simply bow their heads;

For those who say long, formal prayers,
And for those who only whisper, ‘Lord, have mercy’;

For those who want freedom for themselves alone,
And for those who want abundant life for all;

For those who slaughter others in your name,
And for the families and friends of those they kill.

I ask all this through Jesus’ holy name,

There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus
(Galatians 3:28; NKJV).

“All of you are equal as brothers and sisters” (Matthew 23:8; NLT).

“I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18; NLT).

‘In the last days’, God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy’ (Acts 2:17; NLT).

I pray for everyone
Throughout the world
Who cannot cope
With the inherent freedom,
And equality
Of women.

Please help us to end
All the oppression,
And violence
Heaped upon your daughters.

Through Jesus’ name,

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen (2 Corinthians 4:18; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

We … with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory (2 Corinthians 3:18; NIV).

In contemplation
We let go of everything,
Including prayer,
To gaze on you alone,
With unveiled face.

The way of love

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” (Luke 10:27; NLT).

It is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbour as yourself” (James 2:8; NLT).

“Love your enemies!” (Matthew 5:44; NLT).

Follow the way of love (1 Corinthians 14:1; NIV).

Please help us to love both you,
And other people,

Our enemies,
And even our own selves;

For only by following
Your way of love

Can we fulfil the essence
Of your royal law.
