Your willing slave

The slave may declare, ‘I love my master [and] I don’t want to go free’ (Exodus 21:6; NLT).

I would even be willing to become a slave, washing the feet of his servants (1 Samuel 25:41; NLT).

Since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet (John 13:14; NLT).

Whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave (Matthew 20:27; NIV).

Lord God,
May I be bound to you –

Your willing slave for life,
And evermore,

Amen.

You are fire

God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am weak (Psalm 6:2; CSB).

You are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16; NLT).

He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils (Genesis 2:7; NLT).

I came to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already set ablaze! (Luke 12:49; CSB).

Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame (Song of Songs 8:6; NLT).

*******************************************

Lord,

You are fire,
But I’m so weak
That I can only host
A tiny spark.

Breathe on my flame
So it grows strong,
And helps to set the world
Ablaze with love.

Rain, your tears, Lord

Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head (Luke 9:58; NLT).

If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread (Matthew 4:3; NLT).

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7; NLT).

He was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood (Luke 22:44; NLT).

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:34; NLT).

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4; KJV).

One goal

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us (John 1:14; NIV).

We have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16; NLT).

I will give them one heart (Jeremiah 32:39; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13; NLT).

Let love be your highest goal! (1 Corinthians 14:1; NLT).

**************************************

Lord,
We share one flesh
With you,

One mind,
One heart,
One soul.

So, may we share
One faith
With you,

One hope,
One love,
One goal.

My blend

Hello everyone. Much of the news has been bad recently, so today I’m posting a more lighthearted prayer by way of compensation:

**********************************************

The baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35; NLT).

You are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28; NIV).

People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God (Luke 13:29; NIV).

I can never get away from your presence! (Psalm 139:9; NLT).

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

**********************************************

Son of Man, I am a Quaker
With a pantheistic flavour,
And a subtle Catholic influence
From youth.

I combine your Holy Scripture
With a dash of Celtic mixer,
And The Book of Common Prayer
Thrown in for truth.

I blend Buddhist meditation
With my Christian contemplation,
For both of these are simply
Wordless prayer.

So, rejoicing in your birth,
I pay homage to the earth,
And celebrate your presence
Everywhere.

We’re your kin

He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have (Romans 8:3; NLT).

All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers (Luke 2:47; NLT).

Love your enemies! […] Pray for those who hurt you (Luke 6:27-8; NLT).

Jesus replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he looked around him and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother” (Mark 3:33-5; NLT).

**********************************************

Lord,

You had a mortal body,
Just like ours,

And the finest human mind
There’s ever been.

Plus, you have such perfect love
For all the world,

And the wisest ever soul –
Yet we’re your kin.
