Good morning!

When I wake up, you are still with me!

Good morning, my Maker,
I love you so much!
Thank you for giving me life.
Thank you for leading me
Day after day,
And helping me face every fear.

Good morning, Lord Jesus,
I love you so much!
Thank you for guiding my steps.
Thank you for caring,
Forgiving my sins,
And sharing each failure and tear.

Good morning, dear Spirit,
I love you so much!
Thank you for staying so close.
Thank you for teaching me,
Living within,
And helping me, year after year.

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26; NLT).

‘Splitting’ God

From the beginning till now the entire creation, as we know, has been groaning in one great act of giving birth (Romans 8:22; TIB).

Introduction
We should never be tempted to split God’s nature into ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ characteristics, despite strong historic, social and religious traditions of doing so.

This is because longstanding pressures to uphold male dominance can encourage us to embrace the aspects of God we see as ‘masculine’, whilst downplaying, or rejecting, those we see as ‘feminine’.

Consequences
In male-dominated societies, splitting God into ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ aspects tempts us to dismiss the ‘feminine’ as being inherently less valuable and less important than the ‘masculine’. Unfortunately, this has had disastrous consequences for many people’s lives:

-It leads to God being seen as overwhelmingly ‘male’ – an incalculable loss to humanity.
-It encourages the belief that men and boys are inherently superior to women and girls.
-It legitimises prejudice, discrimination, exploitation, exclusion and violence towards women and girls.
-It encourages men to believe they have the right to exercise their supposed ‘superiority’ over women with impunity.

The result has been that women have had to struggle against their supposed ‘inferiority’ throughout history, whilst being systematically denied the opportunities and freedoms which have given men educational, legal, employment and financial advantages.

Conclusion
Sadly, many people still cling tightly to the traditional concept of a wholly ‘masculine’ God.

Others acknowledge that God has some ‘feminine’ qualities, although these are generally considered insufficient to change their belief in God’s essential, overriding ‘masculinity’.

This means that in prayers, liturgies, hymns, Biblical translations, spiritual writings and much beyond, God is still traditionally conceived of, addressed, and referred to as an essentially ‘masculine’ Being.

However, when we grasp that God is One, and cannot be split in any way, all these false social, religious and linguistic dichotomies fall away forever. Then, at last, we begin to see God as God really is.

The LORD our God, the LORD is one (Deuteronomy 6:4, NLT).

We will see God as God really is (1 John 3:2; TIB).

All creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time (Romans 8:22; NLT).

Will I, who causes others to give birth, not also give birth myself, says the Lord? Will I, who bestows generation upon others, be barren myself, says the Lord your God? (Isaiah 66:9; CPDV).

For a long time I have kept silent, I have been quiet and held myself back. But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant (Isaiah 42:14; NIV).

As a mother consoles a child, so I will console you (Isaiah 66:13; NET).

Then YHWH came down in a cloud and stood before Moses to proclaim the divine Name, I AM. And YHWH passed before Moses, proclaiming, “I AM! I am God, YHWH, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abundant in kindness and faithfulness; faithful to the thousandth generation, forgiving injustice, rebellion and sin; yet not leaving the guilty unpunished, calling the children and grandchildren to account for the sins of their ancestors, to the third and fourth generation!” (Exodus 34:5-7; TIB).

Longing

The Lord longs to be gracious to you (Isaiah 30:18; NIV).

You long to heal us
And forgive,
To make us new
So we may live.

You ache to help us,
And to guide,
So we can shelter
At your side.

You thirst for oneness
With us all,
So you can save us
When we fall.

You wait for us
To turn to you,
And ask your help
With all we do.

He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy (Psalm 28:7; NLT).

I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one – as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me (John 17:21; NLT).

I’m nothing

I’m nothing more than dust and ashes (Job 30:19; NLT).

I’m nothing,
Though I’ve done my best
Through every trouble,
Trial, and test.

I try hard,
Yet I often fail;
I’m willing,
But my flesh is frail.

You know my faults,
My guilt, my shame:
I’m sorry
Let me start again!

I turn to you –
Forgive my sin,
And heal me, Yahweh,
Deep within.

Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved (Jeremiah 17:14; NIV).

Making mistakes

Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am frail (Psalm 6:2; NET).

He knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust (Psalm 103:14; NLT).

Even when
I make mistakes,
And get things wrong,
And try, but fail –
It’s still okay
To be myself,
Because God knows
That I am frail.

So, every time
I speak amiss,
I’ll ask God’s help
Without delay –
Then I’ll face up
To what I’ve done,
By saying, “Sorry”,
Straight away.

I listen to their conversations and don’t hear a word of truth. Is anyone sorry for doing wrong? Does anyone say, “What a terrible thing I have done”? (Jeremiah 8:6; NLT).

If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift (Matthew 5:23-4; NIV).

When you fall

Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion (Isaiah 40:30; NLT).

The LORD upholds all who fall (Psalm 145:14; NKJV).

Let me catch you
When you fall.
Let me catch you,
One and all:
For my heart
Is full of love,
Streaming down
From heaven above.

Let me bear you
When you rise,
Far beyond
The eastern skies:
There you’ll live
In paradise,
Where all are one
With me, the Christ.

God never meant us to experience the Retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that, alive or dead, we should still live united to him (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10; JB).

Short and simple

God hears (Genesis 16:11; NLT).

Let your prayers
Be short and simple:
Honest, heartfelt,
Full of love.

God will hear,
Whatever happens:
And will answer
From above.

Let your prayers
Be long and complex:
Anguished, full of
Doubt, or sin.

God will hear,
Whatever happens:
And will answer
From within.

There is … one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:4,6; NLT).

When you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words (Matthew 6:7; NIV).

Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17; NIV).

In joy and worship

The LORD is good to those who depend on him (Lamentations 3:25; NLT).

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion (Ephesians 6:18; NLT).

In joy and worship,
Sin and failure –
Lift your hands,
And let the Spirit
Pray on your behalf.

In thanks and rapture,
Pain and sickness –
Lift your mind,
And let the Spirit
Pray on your behalf.

In love and homage,
Fear and anguish –
Lift your heart,
And let the Spirit
Pray on your behalf.

In life and death,
Whatever happens –
Lift your soul,
And let the Spirit
Pray on your behalf.

The Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words. And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will (Romans 8:27-8; AMP).

Giving thanks

Give thanks to the God of gods (Psalm 136:2; NIV).

Thank you, God,
For being there;
For being near –
For being here!

Thank you, God,
For being close;
Despite my sin –
You live within!

Thank you, God,
For being love;
Forget my past –
We’re one at last!

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Christ crucified

Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross (Mark 15:24; NLT).

In agony
Of body,
And of mind,

Crucified,
In anguish
And despair,

Ours were the sins
You bore; for us
You prayed,

Though feeling abandoned –
God’s dear Son,
And Heir.

You exposed yourself to death itself, and allowed yourself to be counted among criminals, while you bore the guilt of many and interceded for sinners (Isaiah 53:12; TIB).

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him” (Mark 9:7; NLT).
