Just a little more like Jesus

Hello to every reader. Contemplative prayer doesn’t depend solely on setting aside a daily quiet time to be open to God, to the exclusion of everything else. It is also supported by remembering God’s presence  throughout the day and night, whatever we are doing. This is done by reaching out to God with very simple prayers, which can be said even when we are busy, or sleepy. For example: “I love you, Lord. Thank you for loving me. Please bless everyone in this place.”  Prayers like this can be used anywhere, at any time: on a bus, driving, waiting for a train, waiting in a supermarket queue, whilst washing your hands, whilst walking, on waking at night, and so on. So here is today’s prayer, which is simply a slightly longer variant on this theme…

Just a little more like Jesus

* But we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16; NIV).
* It takes only a few short words, repeated throughout the day. “Make me according to Your heart, God. Make my thoughts Yours” (Brother Lawrence: a Christian Zen Master, by Brother Lawrence, Zen teachers and one more; 2011).

Father,
Please make my thoughts, words and deeds
Just a little more like those of your dear Son.

Help me to love and serve you
With all my heart, soul, mind and strength,
So I can become just a little more like him.
