Yesterday afternoon, whilst driving to the North of the beautiful Island on which I live, I had to stop several times, in order to make notes for the following prayer…
With whom then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him?
(Isaiah 40; 18; NIV).
None can compare with you (Psalm 40:5; NIV).
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom (Isaiah 40:28; NIV).
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways (Isaiah 55:8; NIV).
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28; NIV).
You are more imposing
Than the highest mountain,
Yet you are nothing like a mountain.
You are more powerful
Than the deepest ocean,
Yet you are nothing like an ocean.
You are more formidable
Than the wildest storm,
Yet you are nothing like a storm.
There is no image
To which we can liken you,
Nor can we fathom
Or your ways,
Our Lord and our God.
