Loss
“The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away” (Job 1:21; NLT).
“And now my life seeps away. Depression haunts my days” (Job 30:16; NLT).
I am sick with despair (Psalm 35:12; NLT).
Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me (Psalm 69:2; NLT).
From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help (Psalm 130:1; NLT).
He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along (Psalm 40:2; NLT).
Father,
When I can’t accept
The losses in my life,
I’m swamped by self-pity,
Depression, or despair.
I pine for what is gone,
Unable to see
How I can live without it.
Lord,
Please help me
Through my mourning,
As I slowly come to terms
With what I’ve lost,
So I can move into a new
And different phase of life –
With you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
