Until last Thursday, I thought that my soul had inevitably been damaged by the experiences I’d had during childhood, and that praying for it to be healed was the only way forward. However, last Thursday, during a therapy session, I saw that my soul is, in fact, completely whole and perfect. It cannot be damaged, spoilt, or destroyed by anything that happens here, during my life. This is a tremendous relief for me. I’ve struggled to express my new understanding in a prayer, but you will be able to decide for yourself how far I’m succeeding at this stage!
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul (Psalm 121:7; KJV).
Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord (Romans 14:8; NIV).
The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).
Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).
Lord,
I’m so relieved
To understand, at last,
That my soul
Is pure
And whole –
Completely perfect.
No one can damage,
Or destroy it,
No matter what
They do to me,
Because my soul
Is part of you.
It came from you,
Continues to belong to you
During my time on earth,
And when I die
Will reunite with you,
For evermore.
