When our time here ends

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Father,

When our time here ends,
Let our spirits come to you.

Greet us all like little children;
Put your arms around us, too.

Lay your hands on us in blessing.
Lord, forgive our sins, and heal

All our losses and diseases,
All the shock of death’s ordeal.

Then, redeem our souls forever –
Crown us with eternal life.

Wash away our pain and anguish,
Far from earth, in paradise.

Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43; NLT).

A reading from Mark 10:13-16; CSB.

People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” After taking them in his arms, he laid his hands on them and blessed them.

Heaven on earth

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies (Psalm 103:3-4; NLT).

In heaven, you forgive us, Lord.
In heaven, Lord, you heal.
In heaven, you redeem us
After life and death’s ordeal.
Then, resurrected, loved, and crowned,
We’re one with you, in joy profound.

In life, you can forgive us, too.
In life, you heal, console.
In life, you can redeem us,
And your hands can make us whole.
Then, born again, we grasp your worth:
We’re one with you, in heaven on earth.

There is only one thing worth being concerned about (Luke 10:42: NLT).

Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him (Philippians 3:8-9; NLT).

Be holy

Be holy in all you do, since it is the Holy One who has called you, and scripture says: Be holy, for I am holy (1 Peter 1:15-16; JB).

May I be holy, Lord,
In all I do;
In all I think and say
Each day, like you.

In every kind of suffering
And pain,
May I be holy, always,
And remain

Your faithful servant,
And your willing slave:
Patient, thankful, joyful, kind,
And brave.

Then, despite each sacrifice
And loss,
I will be holy, still,
And bear my cross.

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23; NLT).

My body

He became anguished and distressed (Matthew 26; 37; NLT).

Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done” (Matthew 26:42; NLT).

My body is a burden;
My mind, a source of pain.

My heart is full of anguish, Lord –
I know you felt the same.

Acceptance is my watchword;
Embracing loss, my goal.

Lord Jesus Christ, please strengthen me,
And heal my fragile soul.

Rejoicing is my target,
And constant prayer, my plan.

May I give thanks for all you send,
And do the best I can.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Every bit

I belong to you (Psalm 119:94; NET).

Every bit of me,
Both good and bad,
Belongs to you.

Yahweh, make me more like Christ,
In all I think, and say,
And do –

For he is my example, Lord,
My life, my truth,
My only way.

May I serve him here,
In all whose path I cross
Today.

It doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us (Colossians 3:11; NLT).

In suffering

Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45; NLT).

In every kind of suffering
May we identify with Christ,
Who dedicated all his days
To service and self-sacrifice.

In physical and mental anguish,
Trials and sorrows, all God sends,
Let’s offer up our pain and grief
For others’ sins. Let’s make amends

On their behalf, ask God to heal
All their afflictions, and restore
Their souls to faith, hope, love and joy –
Through Christ our Lord, for evermore.

I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church (Colossians 1:24; NLT).

Reach out

The LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion (Isaiah 30:18; NLT).

Reach out to God,
For the Father is waiting –
Longing for you
To come to him.

Reach out to God,
For the Father is waiting –
Whether your life is good,
Or grim.

Reach out to God,
For the Father is waiting –
Though you are sinful, sick,
Or blind.

Reach out to God,
For the Father is waiting –
Search for him daily:
You will find.

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Luke 11:9; NLT).

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. Every life

In humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:3-5; NIV).

May every life
Be like the life
Of Christ:

With joys, temptations,
Faith,
Self-sacrifice;

Trials and sorrows,
Troubles,
And distress;

Torment and anguish
Offered up for others, pain –
And death.

He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8; NKJV).

The LORD will reward him with honor and power for sacrificing his life. Others thought he was a sinner, but he suffered for our sins and asked God to forgive us (Isaiah 53:12; CEV).

God’s Spirit

The Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words. And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will (Romans 8:26-7; AMP).

God’s Spirit prays on our behalf:
Bringing us joy, and peace,
And inspiration.

God’s Holy Spirit speaks to us:
Talking of patience, kindness,
And salvation.

God’s Spirit teaches us to grow
In loving care for all,
Renouncing sin.

God’s Holy Spirit strengthens us,
So we can trust in Christ,
And rise, like him.

God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead (1 Corinthians 6:14; NLT).
