God’s love

Today is my first full day back at home, so I have prepared something special for you. It is the very first spiritual prayer-poem which came to me, written on 21.3.92. Its arrival was totally unanticipated, and at the time, I was sitting in a jacuzzi!

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it (John 1:5; NLT).

You are light that shines forever;
You are love poured out for all.
You are present all around us;
You stay with us when we fall.

You are in the mother, baby,
Thief and beggar, prostitute;
Friend, aggressor, partner, stranger:
Suffering, dying, destitute.

Lord, you make both earth and heaven:
You could command me; raise your voice.
How is it that you seek me, knock,
And wait for me to make my choice?

You are streams of love poured on me:
Melt me, heal, forgive me, too.
You are present deep within me:
God, my lover, I choose you.

My lover is mine, and I am his (Song of Songs 2:16; NLT).

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve (Joshua 24:15; NIV).

    • Thank you, Bea. I know I owe you a letter, but John has been back in hospital by ambulance again with his heart – on my moving day! 2nd time in a week. It’s been pretty chaotic here, but I am slowly getting things a bit straighter at home. He saw our GP yesterday, and we have the beginnings of a plan. Meanwhile, you are in my thoughts, and I hope so much that you will gradually settle again. With love from Ruth xxxxx
