The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7; KJV).
Our first breath brings us
Life on earth,
Bestowed by God,
Who gives us birth.
God’s Scion breathes
Upon us, too,
And sends his Holy Ghost,
Like dew.
Throughout our lives
This will not cease:
They share each breath,
And offer peace.
Then, aided by
Their staff and rod,
Our last breath takes us
Back to God.
The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).
