Creation and evolution

Hello everyone. This is a meditation on a subject people get very heated about. I see no conflict at all between believing in creation and believing in evolution, as God made both. What do you think?

Creation and evolution

  • The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge (Psalm 19:1-2).

Lord,
You are unchanging, timeless and eternal.
To you, a thousand years are like a day,
And darkness is the same as light.

You spoke: and brought creation into being,
Formed the process of evolution,
And set it in motion.

It endures from age to age,
According to your laws.

Stars and planets take shape,
Spinning through space,
Until they return to dust.

On Earth,
Continents drift and collide,
Bedrock splits.

Volcanoes explode.
Islands are born,
Then drawn back under the sea.

Mountains buckle and rise.
Eroded by rivers of ice,
They fragment and fall.

Trees reach for the sun.
As they age,
Their decay enriches the soil.

Plants compete,
Bursting with beauty,
Then fading into the earth.

Creatures come into being.
They adapt and change,
Struggle to survive and multiply, then die.

Lord, you are far beyond our grasp.
All life flows from your hands,
Until you order it to cease.

Then we must stand before you,
Our Creator,
Just as we did in Eden, long ago.

Naked, defenceless and ashamed,
We will fall at your feet in dread,
Trusting in your mercy,
Your forgiveness,
And your love.
