Hello to all readers. Today’s prayer has a basic discipleship theme relating to the quality of our exchanges with others. This includes face-to-face contacts, emails, twitter, phone conversations, how we relate to people we pass in the street, in shops, or at work, and how we relate to other drivers, or other users of public transport. There is absolutely no one who doesn’t matter, no one who can be ignored, looked down on, or treated with contempt. Everyone deserves friendliness, courtesy and respect. Some will need our kindness, help and love. Many contacts are very fleeting, but their quality is just as important as in relationships that last for years. For good or ill, our behaviour can have significant consequences on how others feel. We can make a difference to their day, or even their life…
Two tasks
- In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5; NIV).
- Love your neighbour as yourself (Mark 12:31; NIV).
Father,
Thank you for showing me
That I have two tasks.
The first is to be like your Son,
By offering his love
To everyone I have contact with today.
The second is to see him in others,
By relating to everyone
I have contact with today
As if they were Christ himself.
Lord,
Thank you for these two tasks.
Please help me to fulfil them
As best I can.
I ask this in your precious name,
Amen.
