The pearl

Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father (Leviticus 19:3; NLT).

“O, my Mother and my Father” –
These few words admit some light:
They offer me a way ahead
At last, through my unending night.

Here, discarded in the dark,
I’ve found a pearl which God has blessed.
It comforts and emboldens me,
This precious truth so long suppressed

By patriarchies far and wide –
That God is male and female: One!
Yahweh is all, and all beyond,
Within us all, to their chagrin.

And so, in darkness, I rejoice,
Balanced, equal, strong and free,
Learning, each day, about my God:
The Holy One, who dwells in me!

I am God, and not man; the Holy One within thee (Hosea 11:9; BST).
