Hidden treasures

I will give you treasures hidden in darkness – secret riches (Isaiah 45:3; NLT).

Lord,
May I find treasures
In my darkness.

Lord,
May I find riches
Hidden there.

Lord,
May I find wisdom
In my stillness.

Lord,
May I find you,
In silent prayer.

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

  • Dear Ruth, how did you know that someone [ME!} feels so empty where her faith has been. Bruising times are with my family and I at the moment ,caring for my husband [55 years married] who has stage 4 bowel and liver cancer. His courage and faith are strong but mine is failing.
As a retired C/E vicar I should be coping and its wonderful the care and concern of so many but my faith had gone cold. So thankyou for the thoughts about waiting and hidden treasure in the dark this morning. It was a comfort and gave me strength to face today. w

  • Dear Ruth, thank you so much for writing. I continue to pray for you both. I know that horrible inner emptiness so well, and have often written about it. When very hard times strike, my experience is that it’s not relevant, realistic, or helpful to maintain that I “should be coping” in any particular way. All I can do is to allow myself to be how I am, and to tell God how I feel and what I’m thinking with complete honesty.

Meanwhile, it’s amazing that you have taken the trouble to write to me, and even to thank me. Your personality and love still shine bright, despite your inner darkness.

NB: I’m planning to dedicate tomorrow’s prayer to you. With love and prayers, from Ruth XXX
