A realisation

Hello everyone. How awesome it is when God answers our prayers! Some of you may remember a blog I published on February 4th this year. It was called “One-way relationships”, and discussed how we might relate to those who absorb huge amounts of support without ever offering any care in return. I was very aware that the piece asked lots of questions, and that I had no answers. However, it never crossed my mind that God might answer all these questions through another prayer, as that has never happened before:

A realisation

* Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces (Matthew 7:6; NIV).

Father,
I’ve just realised
There are some people I can support,
And some I can’t.

I can help those who want to tackle their problems,
Those who, with encouragement,
Slowly work to change themselves,
Face their losses,
And become aware that others suffer too.

But I can’t help those who refuse to change
Yet expect endless sympathy,
Who never see that others suffer too, including me,
And who turn on me with fury
When I offer honest feedback.
