He restores my soul (Psalm 23:3; NKJV).

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign LORD (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

In contemplation,
You revive my strength;

In stillness,
You refresh my mind;

In silence,
You restore my heart;

And in union,
You renew my soul.

Trials and sorrows

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13; NLT).

“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give” (John 14:27; NLT).

For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:10-11; NIV).

Please help us
In this world of trials and sorrows.

Heal our hatred and enmity,
Our fear and violence.

Fill us with faith and hope,
With peace and love.

Then bring us, at last,
To your eternal kingdom.

In Jesus’ name,

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus (Acts 15:11; NLT).

He forgives all my sins (Psalm 103:3; NLT).

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (1 Peter 5:7; NLT).

He restores my soul (Psalm 23:3; NKJV).

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16; NIV).

The LORD blesses them with peace (Psalm 29:11; NLT).

There is no grace
Like yours, Lord –

So why am I surprised
When you forgive my sins?

There is no care
Like yours, Lord –

So why am I amazed
When you restore my soul?

There is no love
Like yours, Lord –

So why am I astonished
When you bless me with peace?

No one has ever seen God (1 John 4:12; NLT).

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13; NIV).

God knows me completely (1 Corinthians 13:12; NLT).

I love the LORD because he hears my voice (Psalm 116:1; NLT).

For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognise it (Job 33:14; NLT).

…God knows me completely (1 Corinthians 13:12; NLT).

“…blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” (John 20:29; NIV).

I can’t see you,
But you see me.

You hear my voice,
And speak to me.

You know me,
And help me.

You touch my life,
And bless me.

So how could I fail
To believe in you?

They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again (Luke 18:33; NLT).

Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip (John 19:1; NLT).

They called in the apostles and had them flogged. Then they ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and they let them go. […] And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah” (Acts 5:40-42; NLT).

“For you will be treated as you treat others” (Matthew 7:2; NLT).

“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’ And they will go away into eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:45-6; NLT).

We can’t destroy
Freedom of thought
By flogging people
Whose ideas we don’t like;

But if we could,
What would it say about us,
And what punishment would await us
After our death?

Invisible God

So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” (Psalm 27:8; NIV).

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2; NIV).

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

For now we see through a glass, darkly (1 Corinthians 13:12; KJV).

No, I will not abandon you as orphans (John 14:18; NLT).

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16; NIV).

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; NLT).

Invisible God,
You create us in your own image.

We seek your face,
But your glory
Is hidden by our sins.

Searching for you
Is like peering
Through an unlit window in the dark –
We only see an indistinct reflection
Of ourselves.

So we imagine you
To be like us,
Creating you in our image,
And fighting over who is right.

Yet, Lord,
Despite our ignorance and strife,
You don’t abandon us.

Instead, you send your only Son,
To show what you are like –
For he is the visible image of you,
Invisible God.

One God

There is only one God (Romans 3:30; NLT).

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror (1 Corinthians 13:12; NLT).

But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! (Psalm 82:5; NLT).

The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

For the leaders of my people – the LORD’S watchmen, his shepherds, – are blind and ignorant (Isaiah 56:10; NLT).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 19:18; NLT).

But anyone who does not love does not know God – for God is love. (1 John 4:8; NLT).

You are the only God,
But, making you in our own image,
We misconstrue you
In our many different ways.

Then, being ignorant and foolish,
We argue over who is right,
Determined to impose our views
On those we think are wrong –
Even if that means using force.

Meanwhile, you look on,
Grieved beyond measure
By our wilful blindness,
Cruelty, and violence;

For when we fail to love
Others as ourselves,
We show them that
We don’t know you at all
As you are Love.

It’s ridiculous!

Be silent before the Sovereign LORD (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5; NIV).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him (1 Chronicles 16:11; NLT).

It’s ridiculous!

We don’t expect
To drive our cars
Day after day
Without refilling
Them with fuel;

So why do we expect
To drive our selves
Day after day,
Without turning to you
In silence,
And asking you
To refill us
With your light,
And strength?

“You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” (Luke 10:27; NLT).

“This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him”  (Luke 9:35; NLT).

Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you (Psalm 55:22; NLT).

“Follow me and be my disciple, “ Jesus said to him (Matthew 9:9; NLT).

“Love you neighbour as yourself” (Luke 10:27; NLT).

Your message is so simple –

All we need to do
Is love you,
Listen to you,
Talk to you honestly,
Follow your Son,
Forgive others,
And serve you
As best we can.

In Jesus’ precious name,

Raif Badawi

So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

May there be no more flogging,
No more unjust imprisonment;
No more violence, cruelty,
And torture;
No more hatred, prejudice,
And discrimination;
No more war.

May we, your people,
Become at last
As you intended
When you made us
In your own image –
For you are Love.
